想不到的时间:科幻小说中的时间旅行(第4/4页)
威尔斯在《新加速剂》[40]中探讨了利用科学手段操纵时间的另一种方式——加速时间,人物体验几个小时的时间,整个外界却几乎静止。这一观念在后续作品中反复出现,如埃德蒙·汉密尔顿的《进化的人》[41],讲述一件能迅速增进人类进化的装置,将一名科学家变成脑袋硕大的未来人类;电视剧《外星界限》中的《第六指》一集偷用了汉密尔顿的故事。克拉克所著《尘世中的分分秒秒》[42]中,一个盗贼通过加速时间,不费吹灰之力盗抢了大英博物馆,却悲哀地发现自己的世界已在劫难逃。《星际迷航》中的一集《眨眼间》设想一整个外星种族都处于加速的时间之中——这个场景又在《星际迷航:航海家号》的《转眼间》一集重现。
也有的故事采用了“近光速航行时,时间流逝更慢”这一基于爱因斯坦相对论推演出的理论,正如安德森笔下《宇宙过河卒》[43]里的时空旅行者,他们所经历的几分钟内,外界已过去了数十亿年。电影《星际穿越》也提出了类似假设:在靠近黑洞强大重力场的星球上,时间会慢下来。《外星界限》的《对照实验》这一集中,火星人动用的“时间凝聚器”可以在特定区域内加速、减缓,乃至反逆时间,以此辅助调查人类嗜杀的特性。类似的减缓时间的设备也曾在披头士主演的电影《救命!》中出现。
虽然诸多科幻故事对各种形式的时间旅行进行了大量的探索,但最终进入当今流行文化并成为其重要组成部分的,仍是由狄更斯、贝拉米、吐温、威尔斯所开创的“传统”时间旅行,这从《回到未来》和《热浴盆时光机》等电影受欢迎的程度即可见一斑,这些影片已将时间旅行的机制及其可能导致的悖论作为了常识对待。尽管科学研究仍旧难以打破壁垒,真正的时间旅行或许永远无法企及,但它仍将是幻想故事和影片中一个长盛不衰的主题。
